Dorset Junior Challenge Cup Final – Lost
to Poole Seconds
1900 Won League Challenge Cup. Repeated in 1905/06 when the first
League title was also captured.
1908 The first county honour came when we won the Junior Cup by beating
Wyke Regis 3-1 in the final.
1908/09 First evidence of a second eleven when teams competed in
both the Junior and Minor Divisions. During these years a mid week
side was also formed called Shaftesbury Wednesdays.
In the early 1920s the first County Leagues were entered in the Junior
Division, with the seconds continuing in the Shaftesbury League.
Later this decade would see the formation of a Youth side to be called
Shaftesbury Athletic.
1931 Admitted to the Dorset Senior League with the seconds moving
up to Junior status.
1932/33 Winners Dorset Senior League
The late 40s and early 50s proved to be the Club’s most successful
period in terms of Cup competitions, 12 cups being won in less than
ten years.
1951 saw the first record of a third team entered in Dorset League
Division IV North.
1957/58 The Dorset Combination League was formed.
1961 Reached the final of the Dorset Senior Cup for the first time
1962 The first team were Champions of Division 1 whilst the seconds
carried off the Division IV North title.
1974 Moved to Cockrams, Coppice St our current home
1976 Won the Dorset League Cup to re-enter into the Dorset Combination
League
1979/80 Youth team entered in the Dorset Youth league and a successful
season culminated with winning the Youth League Cup and reaching
the final of the Dorset Youth Cup.
1987/88 Reached the final of the Combination Cup
1988/89 Won the Combination Cup and were League Champions
1994/95 Combination Cup Winners
1996/97 League Champions
2004/05 Due to a new ground and facilities were able to enter Wessex
League Division 2.
2005/06 Entered the FA Vase for the first time in the club’s
history.
2006/07 Leagues renamed, now Wessex One
Under 18 Team formed
Shaftesbury FC has 4 Senior Teams: 1st Team - Wessex League Division One,
Reserves - Dorset Reserve League, 3rd Team - Dorset Division 3, as well as
a Veterans Team. Season 2006/07 will also see an U18 team for the first time.
There is also a thriving Junior section: Under 14, 13, 12, 11,10 and U9 Boys,
and mini football for 5 – 10 year old boys and girls.
