WHITCHURCH UNITED - CLUB HISTORY

Having been formed in 1903 by the amalgamation of Whitchurch Rovers & Whitchurch Albion they have maintained competitive football consecutively, and in 1958 successfully applied to join the Hampshire League Div 3 where they finished 10th.

In 1966/67 they gained promotion to Div 2, were relegated in 1968/69, but once more achieved promotion in 1971/72. 1989/90 saw them crowned as champions of Div 2 and after two good seasons in Div 1 they successfully ‘spread their wings’ into the Jewson Wessex League in 1992.

After a tough season in 1993 they dropped back into the Hampshire League once more, but made a quick return to the Wessex League where they still play today. In 1996/97 they won the Basingstoke Senior Open Cup.

A reserve side was formed during the early days, playing in the Basingstoke League initially, but now playing in the Wessex Combination.

In 2000 a decision was made to form an ‘A’ side taken mainly from the successful U16’s and U15’s youth teams, and they joined the Andover & District League Div 2 finishing 4th in their first season gaining promotion to Div 1 the following season where they remain today.
