AFC TOTTON - CLUB HISTORY

Totton Football Club was formed in 1886. After the 1914/18 war they entered the Southampton Senior League and the New Forest League, and in 1920/21 joined the Hampshire League West.

Totton moved to Testwood Park on 30 December 1933. In 1975 they amalgamated with Totton Athletic, installed floodlights and opened a Clubroom and bar at the ground. The Club's most successful season was in 1981/82 when they won the Hampshire League Division 1 title for the first time, the Russell Cotes Cup, Hampshire Intermediate Cup, Southampton Senior Cup, Echo Trophy, Reg Mathieson Trophy and the Eastleigh six a side trophy. The Hampshire League title was won again in the 1984/85 season and in 1985/86 as the Club celebrated its Centenary year.

The Club joined the Wessex League when it was formed in the 1986/87 season and finished 3rd. Although League success eluded the Club it performed well in Cup Competitions, winning the Medisport Wessex League Cup in 1989/90 and again in the 1998/99 season. The 1999/2000 season saw the Club reach the 5th Round of the FA Vase Competition where they lost to Bedlington Terriers and finished 4th in the League.

This upturn in fortunes continued into 2000/01 with the Club finishing in 4th placein the League and the Carlsberg FA vase was again to provide the Club with a good cup run, but defeat came in the 4th round against Chippenham Town. In 2001/02 the Club equalled its best finish taking 3rd place. in 2002/03 the Club again finished a creditable 3rd. However, the Club did gain some silverware that season by defeating League Champions Eastleigh in the final of the League Cup.

Season 2003/04 saw the 1st team finish in 8th position and reach the semi final of the League Cup. The Reserves finished 5th in the Combination Division and also reached the semi final of the Combination League Cup for the second year running. They also reached the final of the Southampton FA Senior Cup but lost to the Hampshire Premier League Champions VT FC.

The following season the 1st team finished 8th. 2005/06 saw many changes of personnel at the Club which resulted in a 4th place finish, together with a fine FA Cup run. The Club also won the League Cup for a 3rd time.

The Reserves again reached the semi finals of the Southampton FA Senior Cup, suffering defeat at the hands of VT FC

2006/2007 was a momentous year for the club. The 1st team's League campaign went to the last game when a 1-0 win against Gosport Borough was one goal short of winning the title. The 2nd team finished 5th in Combination 1 and won the League Combination Cup 2-0 against Cowes Sports Res.

However the highlight of the year was the appearance at the new Wembley Stadium in the F.A. Vase Final against Truro City. Despite having chances to win the game and taking the lead Totton lost 3-1 to their West Country opponents.

In 2007/2008 the 1st team went one better in the League winning the Wessex Premier title, gaining promotion to the Southern League South & West Division.
