| ALRESFORD TOWN CLUB HISTORY |
| The first report of football being played in Alresford was recorded
in the Hampshire Chronicle on 19th March 1898, between Alresford and
Cheriton. Alresford won 1-0
During the 90 years that followed a number of names were recorded as teams playing in Alresford :- Alresford Red Star, Alresford Evening Constitution, Alresford Football Club, Alresford Rovers, and in the 30's a team located at the Bell called "The Linnets" In recent times a club was reformed in 1987 at the present location at Alrebury Park. The team was entered into the Winchester League Division 2. Players seeing the potential of the club signed up and we won the division and then went on to win the Division 1 title, progressing to the North Hants League finishing as runners up and winning promotion to the the Hampshire League Division 2 The rise up the league continued one more step with promotion to the Hampshire League Division 1 in 1990 The history from then on shows the club stabilise in the Hampshire Leagues until joining the newly expanded Wessex league in 2004. Initially in the second tier of the League, the club gained promotion
to the Premier Division at the end of season 2006/2007, finishing
runners up to Hayling United. After a promising start to season 2007-2008,
the team fell away and finished third from bottom. |
