BOURNEMOUTH - CLUB HISTORY

The club was founded on 11th September 1875, as Bournemouth Rovers, making it one of the oldest clubs in the country. It is a founder member of the Football Association, the Hampshie F.A. & the Bournemouth F.A. It was also a founder member of the Hampshire League and spent it's entire existence with the League (except for a short spell at the turn of the century) until becoming a founder member of the Wessex League in 1986.

The club played the second game in the first Hampshire League season going down 1-0 to Ryde Sports on 12th September 1896 evenually finishing 6th in the eight team League.

The club's first ground was called East Common near the railway station. It moved to Dean Park (now Dorset's county cricket ground) and on to it's current ground at Victoria Park which was a converted farmer's field.

The first taste of Hampshire League success were West Division title wins in 1905 & 1910. The club was County Division champions both sides of the Great War in 1914 and 1922. However in 1929 the club was relegated to the newly formed Division 2 but regained top flight status by winning the championship in 1932.

After the Second World War, the club found itself back in Division 2 but recovered some of it's past glories by winning the Hampshire Intermediate Cip in 1950, 1970 & 1972. Promotion and relegation followed in quick succession between 1979 & 1983 but in 1985 the club was admitted to the newly formed Wessex League.

The club's best finish has been 3rd in 1990/91 (under the guidance of Tommy Taylor) and runner up to Fleet Town in 1994/95 when Alex Pike was the Manager.

The prestigious club house was opened in 1985 with it's glass front providing a full view of the pitch. The building also incorporates a 250 seater stand which stretches along a third of one touchline.
