CLUB ALLOCATIONS - 2023/24

May 15, 2023

The FA have released their proposed allocations for the 2023/24 campaign, which includes both new and returning clubs to the Wessex League.

In the Premier Division, Andover New Street and Petersfield Town's promotions from Division One are confirmed, while Lymington Town re-join us after two seasons away, following their relegation from the Southern League Division One (South)

Dorset-based Sherborne Town are moved laterally into our 20-team top-tier, from the Western League Premier Division.

Leaving the Premier Division are Champions, Horndean - promoted to the Isthmian League (South East) - and runners-up, Bemerton Heath Harlequins who are promoted to the Southern League Division One (South).

We also say farewell to Pagham after a single season with us - The Lions finished in a relegation berth, but have been reprieved with a lateral move back to the Southern Combination Premier Division.

In Division One, AFC Aldermaston and Cove are laterally moved from the Combined Counties Division One, while Clanfield are promoted from the Hampshire Premier League Senior Division - having last appeared in our old Division Two set-up in 2006/07.

Frimley Green - relegated from the Combination Counties Premier South - are also named in the 21-team Division One, alongside Alresford Town, who finished bottom of last season's Premier Division.

Fleet Spurs and Amesbury Town are relegated to Regional Feeder Leagues - their most likely destinations the Hampshire Premier League and Wiltshire Senior League respectively - however these are yet to be confirmed.

*Please note these allocations are subject to final ratification from the FA Council.

AFC Stoneham held their nerve to edge-out Haywards Heath Town on penalties and reach the FA Vase quarter finals for the first time. Duarte Martins put the Purps ahead early in the second half, before the hosts levelled through Henry Watson with six minutes remaining in front of 674 at Hanbury Park Stadium. However, Martins scored the decisive spot kick to continue Stoneham's run in the competition, and join fellow Wessex side, Downton in the last eight. Stoneham's victory sets-up a tie against United Counties League Premier Division South side, Coventry United. Downton meanwhile are also just two wins away from Wembley, reaching the quarter finals last week in beating Lymore Gardens 3-0 - they travel to SCEFL Premier Division side, Punjab United - ties to be played on February 28.
