MIDWEEK REVIEW

The main action on Tuesday evening was in Division One but there were two games in the Premier Division, both ending in three goal victories.

At Alresford goals from Kristian Andonov, Sam Steele and Tyler Wellman gave the home side the three points against Blackfield & Langley whilst at Cams Alders it was Moneyfields (pictured) who came out on top with Joe Briggs, Steve Hutchings and Adam Cripps on target.

As usual there was a bumper attendance in excess of 250 at Fareham. In Division One, four of the top five in the table were in action with a lone Justin Bennett goal giving the leaders, Bemerton Heath the three points at home to New Milton.

Follands followed up their nine goals on Saturday with a four nil win at Fleet Spurs – Jamie White (2), Connor Rowe and Will Gange the marksman – while Andover New Street overcame a spirited Romsey side 4-2 at the Bypass ground. It was a personal triumph for Street striker Ross Cook who scored all four of his side’s goals, as the Club passed the 100 mark for the season, while Jack Odam with a penalty and Ollie Jenkins replied for the home side.

The only “losers” on the night, so to speak, were Andover Town who needed a Ryan Griffiths goal two minutes from time to rescue a point against Verwood at the Portway, the visitors having gone ahead in the first half courtesy of an own goal. In the remaining game in the Division East Cowes Vics made the long midweek journey to Laverstock & Ford and went down by the odd goal in three. Lewis Wakeford scored both the home goals whilst Sam Cant added another to his growing tally for the Vics.

Two Cup matches completed the evening, Cowes Sports moved in to the last four of the Isle of Wight Gold Cup with a narrow victory over Island League side West Wight, a John McKie penalty the difference between the two sides. The Southampton Senior Cup, not for the first time this season, threw up a mis-match as Southern League Winchester completed a bad three days for Millbrook with an 11-0 victory, Olly Balmer scoring five.

Two League games on Wednesday, one in each Division. In the Premier Division Shaftesbury quickly returned to winning ways after their defeat on Saturday with a 5-0 victory at Baffins Milton Rovers, for whom the second half of the season has been very low key.

Shaftesbury were three goals up at the break with the eventual five goals coming from Ben Satterley and Asa Phillips with two apiece and a single from Luke Burbidge. In Division One Fawley fought back from a goal down to beat Petersfield 2-1 thanks to two late second half goals from Dylan Knight. The Petersfield scorer was George Cartmell.
